busy update

matt has been here and left. it was nice to see him for a few days, and he conveniently left right when the weather started to get really yucky.

some of the biggest puffiest snowflakes i've ever seen fell here in austin yesterday. pretty cool.

i presented at lab meeting on monday during which time my advisor and old boss were making suggestions for other things i should do with the data. after the meeting my advisor stayed to talk to me for a bit about it (nothing bad). it was rather amusing though when at one point he got this very concerned look on his face and said i am a little worried about how much you have on your plate right now [at work], but there doesn't seem to be anything you can just stop doing. i have to say its kind of a relief to get to a point where your advisor acknowledges how much you're actually doing.

happy belated valentine's day!

eric gave me a red rose for valentine's day.
its beautiful and very special.
he got it when he was stationed in the philippines
many years ago.
it reminds me of the little prince,
who we read about together earlier this year.

i think i'm ready for lent to begin.
i think i had too many valentine's
day treats, delicious though they were.

matt comes later this week.
i am excited to see him!

kids in the lab

yesterday was one of those fantastic days where you managed to be super productive and smiling despite the rain. we had about 20 kids, ages 4-early teens, come visit the lab. they were super excited to play with the markers and check out how our motion capture cameras work. it is so much fun to able to share this stuff with them.

for them the kids, being in the lab and seeing what we were doing was kind of like watching video games. saturday night, eric and i and a bunch of our friends had actually headed to dave & buster's for a little gaming ourselves (pictures still need to be uploaded). i love skee ball.

i think i finally figured out what i was going to do race-wise this year. i'm thinking headlands 50-miler in early august followed by wasatch 100 in early september. i'm excited. i've been getting some barefoot run mileage in, but its so interesting because my calves are sore afterward, which didn't happen when i first started running in my vibrams. go figure.

in other news, i'm in the process of tracking down a house. i found a 6 bdrm duplex basically right across the street from where i currently live and a bunch of people from church are interested in renting it with me for next school year. keep you fingers cross that it works out!

slc

last year i spent quite a bit of time in colorado.

this year i seem destined to spend a lot of time here:

jason's mom called the temple in salt lake city, ut a couple weeks ago, and they had an opening...so now instead of getting married in kona, my good friends kehau and jason are getting married in slc. why is this of note you may wonder? well, i had already bought my tickets for hawaii and called to tell kehau when i was coming in only to find out everything had changed super last minute.

so, i will now be in slc the first weekend in march to celebrate with kehau and jason. if you'll be in town for the festivities, let me know!
